Persistent Drought Conditions Continue To Plague Farmers
Local farmers continue to feel the pinch from recent drought conditions, and fear that a lack of rain will result in decreased yields this crop season.
Because of the drought conditions members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Commissioners have approved a resolution, requesting that area farmers participating in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) be allowed to cut emergency supplies of hay.
The USDA Farm Service Agency County Committee has requested that the Tennessee State Committee approve the county for Emergency Haying and Grazing status.
Farmers participating in the CRP program are not allowed under any circumstances to cut hay before July 1.
County Commissioners have requested that state officials allow local farmers to cut hay earlier this year, without penalty.
